Sing Squad Juniors - Summer 2022

Sing Squad Juniors - Summer 2022

Here is why you should join Sing Squad Juniors

Through vocal performance, we explore key themes over a 12 week block. Take part as we teach you techniques that showcase storytelling, characterisation and musicality. Watch as we share our newly discovered knowledge of technique and vocalising. Join us for the end of term performance by our Sing Squad Juniors members!

Fun & Enjoyment

From a very young age, children communicate with sounds, and these sounds and fun will come naturally to your child.

Watch your child gain confidence to explore their own creativity and style.

Your child will gain the confidence and creativity to showcase their storytelling, characterisation and musicality at the end of each term.

Develop your child’s performing skills so they can achieve a performance which is engaging and connect with the audience.

The Secret Garden

It was brilliant to see you back in your sessions this week. We’ve missed your faces over the Easter holidays.

This term we are going to be focussing on The Secret Garden and our articulators.

Can you remember what the four articulators we discovered today are? (remember there’s a handout to help you with this).

We also listened to It’s a Maze, from The Secret Garden, and identified the different ways that Ben, Mary, and Dickon used their articulators to create different sounds. Why not listen to the song at home and describe the different articulation to your grown ups.

The Jaw - Part 1

We started exploring our jaw this week. We heard how it could change the sound of the words we’re saying or singing if we overuse. We also found how it could be hard to make ourselves understood if we kept it as closed as possible. We thought about how our jaw feels if we try to talk and sing whilst it was closed, and the difference to how it felt when we overexaggerated the jaw movement needed.

We also started learning It’s a Maze and began to look at Mary’s section at the start of the song.

Why not use the words and tracks to practice this at home?

Week 3

We continued our exploration of the jaw this week.

Did you know that the primary purpose of the jaw is to help us eat? No wonder it can feel tired after we’ve chewed lots.

We also learnt about the TMJ – the Temporomandibular Joint, and felt how it moved. Remember we don’t want it moving too far.

Can you remember some stretches to help you with relaxing the jaw? You can check the handout for a reminder.

Week 4

We started to explore our lips this week. We loved the sounds you were making.

Keep up the incredible work you’re doing.

Week 6

I loved hearing what you have all been doing. Your voices are sounding great, and there is some great teamwork happening.

We did a recap this week of everything you’ve looked at, looking at jaw/cheek massaging, facial stretches, lip stretching, before playing around with some epic alien sounds.

We made sure we were confident with all the words of It’s a Maze. There are some really good sounds being created.

Week 7

This week we began to look at the tongue. We are going to explore this loads over the next few weeks as there is so much to discover.

Today we looked at the tip of the tongue, and used it to touch the lips, the teeth, the hard palate and the soft palate.

You all did brilliantly.

Week 8

This week we moved from the tip of the tongue to the back of the tongue – also known as the dorsum.

We explored how it can work together with the soft palate, and used the exercise ‘ng-gar’ to help with this.

You all did brilliantly.
